November is a time to pause, reflect, and give thanks, not only for what we have, but for those who’ve served to protect it. As Veterans Day approaches, I would like to take a moment to honor every veteran, including my husband, who served 14 years in the military, and the generations of veterans in my own family, among them my dad, uncle, and grandfather. Their service has given me a deep respect for the dedication, resilience, and sacrifice that come with wearing the uniform.

For many veterans, life after the military means writing a new chapter —one filled with possibility, but also uncertainty. Going back to school can be one of the most empowering next steps, whether that means earning a degree, learning a trade, or finally pursuing a long-held dream. The good news is that there are countless scholarships created specifically for veterans and military families to help make that next chapter a reality.

🎯 Your Next Mission: You

After years of serving others, this is your moment to focus on yourself, your goals, your growth, your future. Education can be the launchpad for that mission, and there are scholarships designed to help make it possible.

Scholarships That Support Your Next Mission

Here are five trusted scholarships created specifically for veterans who are ready to continue their education:

1. AMVETS National Scholarship: Open to veterans, active-duty service members, and members of the Guard or Reserves pursuing college degrees or vocational training.

2. Pat Tillman Foundation Scholars Program: Named for NFL player and Army Ranger Pat Tillman, this prestigious program supports veterans, active-duty service members, and spouses who show leadership, service, and a drive to create positive change.

3. Student Veterans of America + Google Scholarship: For veterans studying computer science or related tech fields, a perfect fit for those interested in today’s most in-demand careers.

4. Northrop Grumman Foundation & Student Veterans of America (STEM) Scholarship: Provides funding for veterans pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or math.

5. Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Scholarships: Available to student veterans and DAV volunteers who demonstrate service, community involvement, and perseverance.

🪖 Tip: Each scholarship has its own eligibility and deadline, so start early. Most applications open between November and March.

Before You Apply

A few quick tips to make the process smoother:

ree
  • Gather your documents early. Keep copies of your DD-214, proof of service, and transcripts readily available.

  • Tell your story. Use your essays to highlight how your service shaped your goals, leadership, and perseverance.

  • Apply even if you’re still serving. Many programs accept active-duty or transitioning service members.

  • Stack your benefits. Scholarships can often be combined with the Post-9/11 GI Bill, tuition assistance, or state programs for even more coverage.
